Last Wednesday, Birmingham students attended auditions for the University’s team of University Challenge. This event, which was held in the Guild Council Chambers, attracted over one hundred students and aimed to find 4 of the top scorers for the show, with 4 reserves. Hopefuls were asked 45 questions, similar to those that would be asked on the academic quiz show.
Charlotte Dayson, a first year Theology and History of Art student commented on the event: ‘I came along because I like quizzes and thought it would be something fun to do. I watch the show quite regularly, especially over the last few weeks in an attempt to boost my knowledge.’ When asked if she thought Birmingham had a good chance of winning, she said ‘We’ve got a good chance of doing well.’
Fourth year Classical literature, Civilization and Italian student, Abi Rimmer, also thinks that Birmingham students have a ‘good shot’. She said: ‘I thought I’d come along and give the auditions a go. It’s my last chance to get involved in something like this as it’s my last year of university.’
Birmingham’s team will be announced soon and the show will be recorded in February next year.
